The Application for Calcium Carbide Slag

The main component of carbide slag slurry is calcium hydroxide (Ca (OH) 2). Calcium carbide slag slurry is a gray brown turbid liquid. After settling, it is divided into three parts: clear liquid, solid deposition layer, and intermediate colloidal transition layer. The proportion of the three exhibits a reversible transformation with changes in static time and environmental conditions. Solid sediment is commonly referred to as calcium carbide waste residue.

1. Application in the field of environmental protection

1. Wastewater treatment: Calcium carbide slag has high alkalinity and can be used to neutralize acidic wastewater, reduce the content of heavy metal ions in wastewater, and thus achieve the goal of purifying water quality. In addition, carbide slag can also be used as a precipitant to remove suspended solids and colloidal substances from wastewater, improving the treatment efficiency of wastewater.

2. Soil improvement: Calcium carbide slag is rich in trace elements such as calcium and magnesium, and can be used as a soil amendment. Applying carbide slag into soil can increase soil pH, improve soil structure, increase soil fertility, and promote crop growth.

3. Flue gas desulfurization: In industrial fields such as coal-fired power plants, carbide slag can be used as a flue gas desulfurizer. The alkaline substances in carbide slag can react with sulfur dioxide in flue gas to produce substances such as calcium sulfate, thereby reducing the content of sulfur oxides in flue gas and meeting environmental protection requirements.

2. Application in the field of building materials

1. Cement production: Calcium carbide slag can be used as one of the raw materials for cement production. Mixing and grinding carbide slag with raw materials such as limestone and clay can produce ordinary Portland cement that meets national standards. This type of cement has high strength and durability, and is suitable for various construction projects.

2. Brick and tile products: Calcium carbide slag can also be used to produce brick and tile products. By mixing and stirring carbide slag with raw materials such as sand and stone, and undergoing processes such as molding and curing, various specifications of brick and tile products can be produced. These products have high compressive strength and durability, and are suitable for construction of building parts such as walls and floors.

3. Concrete admixture: Calcium carbide slag can be used as a concrete admixture. Adding a certain proportion of carbide slag to concrete can improve its compressive strength, durability, and impermeability. Meanwhile, carbide slag can also reduce the cost of concrete and improve economic benefits.

3. Applications in the field of agriculture

1. Fertilizer production: Calcium carbide slag is rich in trace elements such as calcium and magnesium, and can be used as one of the raw materials for fertilizer production. Mixing carbide slag with organic substances for fermentation can produce organic fertilizers rich in trace elements. This fertilizer can improve soil fertility, promote crop growth, and increase yield and quality.

2. Soil conditioner: Calcium carbide slag can also be used as a soil conditioner. Applying carbide slag in acidic soil can neutralize soil acidity, increase soil pH, improve soil structure, and promote crop growth. Meanwhile, the trace elements in carbide slag can also provide nutritional support for crops.

4. Applications in other fields

1. Chemical raw materials: Calcium carbide slag contains a certain amount of calcium carbide, which can be used as a chemical raw material. Through processes such as carbonization and pyrolysis, compounds such as calcium carbide and acetylene can be extracted from carbide slag for the production of chemicals such as vinyl chloride and vinyl acetate.

2. Paper industry: In the paper industry, carbide slag can be used as a filler and coating for paper. Mixing and stirring carbide slag with pulp can improve the strength and whiteness of paper, as well as enhance its printing and writing properties.

3. Environmentally friendly building materials: Through certain processing techniques, carbide slag can be converted into environmentally friendly building materials, such as lightweight partition boards, insulation materials, etc. These materials have advantages such as environmental protection, energy conservation, and fire prevention, and are widely used in the field of construction.
